Communication regarding the continued development of PGA and PGA Sweden National

The history behind PGA Sweden National

In the late 1990s, a vision emerged within the PGA to establish a facility of the highest international standard, capable of hosting major national and international tournaments. At the same time, the facility was intended to serve as a home for the PGA and its members.

The PGA took the initiative, and together with several stakeholders, the project was able to get underway.

The PGA is a membership organization and golf development organization, where development, education, and competition are among its core areas. To realize the project, the PGA needed strong partners, and with the support of a number of co-owners, the facility was ultimately completed in 2009.

Since its inception, the PGA has licensed its brand to the facility, regulated through a licensing agreement. From the start, the facility has been named PGA Sweden National.

Over the years, PGA Sweden National has hosted several successful major events:

  • The PGA Championship with PEAB as title sponsor on two occasions
  • European Tour tournaments on two occasions
  • One Challenge Tour event
  • SGT tournaments on multiple occasions
  • European Senior Teams Championship
  • Scandinavian Seniors, the largest international senior tournament in the Nordic region, launched in 2012 and held annually
  • In addition, the PGA has organized a large number of championships, such as the PGA Club Pro
  • Championship, PGA 4 Ball Championship, and PGA Junior Pro Am (the Swedish final).

The facility has fulfilled the PGA’s objectives very well.

Over the years, PGA Sweden National has developed into a well-known destination for golfers seeking a complete experience. The area around the driving range has been upgraded with modern equipment, and there are plans for further development. For the past year, two padel courts have been fully operational at the facility. Hotel and restaurant operations have also become a growing part of the business. It can be said that PGA Sweden National is increasingly developing into a “resort,” rather than just a golf facility.

Name change

Times change, and conditions evolve.

To create opportunities to streamline and further develop the operations of our respective organizations, as well as to increase clarity around each party’s focus and responsibilities, we have agreed to separate the names.

As of July 1, the facility will be named “The National”.
The PGA’s operations will continue under the name PGA.

This creates clarity for both organizations and provides positive opportunities for both the PGA and The National to leverage their respective strengths and development potential.

Development – New conditions and new opportunities

The PGA will prioritize its core areas, such as development, education, and creating value for its members.

For some time, the PGA has developed a vision for what a national development and education center could look like. This would be a tailored facility where the PGA can house its offices, deliver its high-quality education programs, and provide opportunities for PGA members – both players and coaches – to access the latest technology, conduct testing, work with groups, and more.

The National will continue its work to develop the facility into one of the country’s leading golf resorts and to further enhance the property in various ways.

The parties are working toward an agreement regarding a development and education center for the PGA at the facility. The PGA and The National will also discuss additional collaboration opportunities that benefit both parties.

It is our shared conviction that this ambition to clearly define operational responsibilities and roles is the best path forward for both organizations. This is further reinforced by our intention to continue working in close cooperation, but under separate names.
